The Plex app for iOS got a huge update on Monday, dropping the app price to free, with a in-app purchase for the premium content. Also adding a handful of new features and visual improvement with the beautiful Media Centre.
Being a free user you can use the Plex app as a remote control for other Plex devices or view images that you have on your camera roll. Everything else is restricted for paid users, and lets be fair $4.99 or £3.99 isn’t a lot of money for what Plex can offer.
Pro users will see a lot of new features this includes;
Playlists; allowing you to add a handful of shows to play one after another, a simple but very useful update.
Video Chapters; making jumping through a movie or tv show faster and less time jumping back and forth for a certain part.
Rotten Tomatoes; reviews are built in, so when you go to play a movie you can see the Rotten Tomatoes score right next to the movie.
Trailers; I was a little hesitant at first but I actually really like the trailers. You can see the cinematic trailer for a movie you have by simply pressing the movie then trailer. You can also schedule trailers before a movie starts, which really makes you feel like your at the cinema rather then sat looking at your iPad.
If you are an existing Plex user this is a great update and makes Plex stand head and shoulders above other media player. If you are new to Plex this is a great way to dip your toe in the water.
