Play a Game, Help Charity With Petscape [App Review]

petscape-iconWhen an app is released in the App Store, it’s meant to provide some sort of revenue stream for its creator. In some rare cases, an app is available for you to enjoy for free and some of the proceeds go to charity. Previously we discussed Charity Miles, which allows you workout while a donation is made according to the distance and type of activity you’re engaging in, and now we’ve discovered another app donating money to charity.

If you like playing games and you’re an animal lover, you need to check out Petscape. This retro style game lets you take control of a dog or cat as you help them avoid obstacles as they make there way across an endless city landscape. Tap to jump over obstacles as you attempt to earn medals for your progress. It seems simple at first, but you quickly learn helping your furry friends avoid endless obstacles is going to be much harder than you think.

I find Petscape mildly addictive and highly irritating. If you jump to soon without seeing an upcoming obstacle, you’re most likely going to have a hard time clearing the next obstacle since the timing of your jump, in these cases, depends on what lies beyond the obstacle in front of you. Although timing this jump properly was getting on my nerves, I found myself going back for more to prove Petscape didn’t get the better of me.Petscape-Screenshot-iPhone-6

The great thing about Petscape is 70 percent of the money received from ads will be used for animal charities. The amount of money being donated can be tracked at their blog where a weekly screenshot of ad earnings is published. Developers of Petscape believe it’s important to remain transparent about how much money is being earned by those playing Petscape and clicking the ads you’ll see while playing.

Although Petscape isn’t a favorite game of mine, I do get a kick out of interacting with it for a few minutes every now and again to do my part in helping provide some much needed revenue to animal charities. When I’m waiting in line to get a cup of coffee at Starbucks or while sitting in the doctors office, an app like this is perfect to interact with since it’s extremely quick to play and easy to understand right from the go. At least now when it feels like I’m doing nothing and need to pass the time, I can play a game that can help the well-being of animals around the world.

Petscape is a free download in the App Store for your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. If you’re passionate about animals and you love playing challenging games, you need to check out Petscape! While you’re playing, be sure and click a few ads here and there to help boost the earnings, which results in more money for animal charities.

3.5 Stars (3.5 / 5) Mild addictive free gameplay results in charitable donations being made by developers, please check it out—it’s for a good cause.
