I’m constantly looking for different ways my iPhone or iPad can further integrate into my life. I’ve yet to discover an app that helps make grocery shopping and meal planning easier. Granted, my wife does most of the grocery shopping, meal planning and cooking, but this doesn’t stop me from trying to figure out a way to make it easier for all of us. My wife and I have different eating preferences which always makes meal planning and shopping just a little more difficult.
When it comes to planning meals in our household it’s not always a meat, a vegetable, and a starch. My wife’s a vegetarian so the meat option is literally off the table for her. This doesn’t mean she won’t cook meat for me since I’m not a vegetarian. I do choose to buy humanely raised meat and dairy products. Now with our daughter getting older, we’re trying to introduce her to more food which can further complicate grocery shopping.
As you can probably tell, planning for meals in our household takes a bit of time. It’s not impossible, but individual preferences need to be addressed. Wouldn’t it be nice if we had an app available that took into account everyone’s wants and needs, allowed us to shop from home, and provided recipes too?
Recently I discovered an independent app under development called KickDish. Developers over at KickDish are well aware of how difficult it is to eat healthy. The amount of time it takes to shop for groceries, find and collect recipes, and then cook meals for yourself or your family is very time consuming. Time is something a lot of us don’t have nowadays with such busy schedules. KickDish seeks to save you time when it comes to shopping and planning for meals.
The other obstacle KickDish is focusing on is the cost of eating healthy. With KickDish you’ll be able to find the best offers available at your local supermarket. You might even be able to purchase your food online and have everything delivered right to your front door. The perception of healthy eating being too expensive could finally change.

Previously I discussed Freshbox, a Food & Drink app for grocery shopping and tracking the freshness of your foods, to see how feasible it would be to use my iPhone or iPad while shopping for groceries. Unfortunately, using Freshbox was extremely time consuming while grocery shopping and if everyone wasn’t actively updating food inventory, actual food on-hand was incorrect.
There are many obstacles KickDish will face. There appear to be many settings and features that’ll allow everyone to take an active role in the meal planning and grocery shopping right from their iOS device.
Although KickDish is still in development, it seems as though it has potential to make grocery shopping and meal planning a bit easier. How well it will integrate into your lifestyle is still unknown. As soon as I’m allowed to beta test KickDish, which should be soon, I’ll let you know what I think. I plan on covering KickDish as everything develops, so make sure to subscribe to iOS Etc for email updates as soon as new content is published.
