Christmas has come and gone and you’ve been getting acquainted with some of your gifts. If Santa was kind enough to bring you a new fourth generation Apple TV, you’ve probably been checking out new apps in the Apple TV App Store at fever pitch. While the new App Store for the Apple TV could use some refining, we’ve come across a few apps you’re going to want to check out.
One thing to keep in mind is you’ll most likely need to search for these apps since we cannot provide a direct link to the app in the App Store for Apple TV. If it’s available in the regular App Store we will provide a link for the iOS app so you’ll have a general idea of what to expect.
When it comes to catching up on news, I’m always looking for a quick convenient way to zero in on exactly what I want to know. Newsy is a great app you can download on your iOS devices to keep you in the know and now it has made its way onto Apple TV too. This news app is a free download in the App Store and lets you spend about ten minutes watching your favorite current events to get caught up on exactly what you want. Enjoy this app on your iOS devices and Apple TV today.
There are some amazing cooking apps available in the App Store and now some of them are finding their way onto your Apple TV. If you enjoy looking at some great food and recipes on your iOS device, you’re going to love feasting on this information on your television thanks to Yummly. Sign into your Yummly account and view all your favorite recipes or add some new ones while using your Apple TV. A word of caution though while using Yummly, don’t interact with this app on an empty stomach.
I’ve learned over the last 19 months that my television is never completely under my control during children hours, which runs from 6:30 am – 8:00 pm. During these hours anything I’m watching can and will be changed with or without warning and there’s little I can do about it. The channel my daughter generally watches is Disney Junior. Unfortunately the shows which capture her attention aren’t always on. Thankfully I’m able to download the Disney Junior app via the App Store and validate I have an active subscription through my television provider. Now we have access to numerous shows for her to watch whenever she wants—it’s fantastic! The Disney Junior app is a free download in the Apple TV App Store.
You’ve probably already used your iPhone in some capacity for fitness and if you own an Apple Watch you’re probably still getting “Stand Up” reminders throughout the day to encourage a healthier lifestyle. Now with the new Apple TV you can download fitness apps to help you workout right at home. A favorite of ours is the HIIT Exercises 7 Minute Workout app. A little goes a long way when it comes to your overall fitness and this is a great way to kickstart a workout routine. You’ll enjoy daily exercises you can complete in the comfort of your own home and in most cases you don’t even need any equipment.
This is probably the most exciting part about the new Apple TV. We’ve enjoyed pulling out our iOS devices for gaming and now these games are making their way onto our television with this recent hardware release. My favorite game thus far on Apple TV is Asphalt 8: Airborne. The iOS version is filled with hours of fun and the Apple TV leaves nothing to be desired. If you’ve played Asphalt 8 on your iOS devices, you can import your iCloud data to your Apple TV and pick up right where you left off. This means all the levels and vehicles you’ve unlocked are right there for you to enjoy. Oh, and did I mention it’s free! Amazing right!! If you haven’t experienced Asphalt 8 yet, you’re going to absolutely love it.
These are only a few of the apps we’ve had a chance to discover on our new Apple TV and we’re excited to continue downloading more and more over the next few months. Although the App Store is a little difficult to navigate with the remote, you can still find what you’re looking for with a little extra time and attention. It would be great if you could access the Apple TV App Store online and add items to a wish list and then download them next time you’re on Apple TV.
